With over 80 Seminars running in 8 rooms, visitors were able to access the latest help and advice on almost every issue relating to detection, monitoring and analysis in the petrochemical sector. Most of the Seminars were given by experts from the exhibiting organisations, so the subject matter was application, technology and product driven.
The majority of the Seminars were very well attended. For example, Luc Harding from PANalytical B.V. said: “Great venue, well organised, well attended, mix of international and local exhibitors and contacts. Our seminar ‘Compliance guaranteed for Sulphur analysis by simple to use but advanced solutions’ was well attended.”
The first day’s seminars focused on analytical chemistry and laboratory techniques; covering a wide range of applications including mud logging, cold filter plugging point testing and the analysis of bitumen, diesel, jet fuels, natural gas, heavy oils, gasoline, and other organic liquids. There were also presentations on specialist subjects such as LIMS configuration, the analysis of precious metals in catalysts and the analysis of pressurised hydrocarbons and biomass pyrolysis effluent. The measurement parameters addressed in the Seminars included density, kinematic viscosity, amines, mercury, oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, C80 tetraacids and water content of crude oils LPG, LNG and refrigerant gas samples.
Several of the Seminars on the second day also included analytical themes, but their focus was more on environmental and process monitoring applications. For example, there were presentations on the use of IRMS in testing for oil spill identification, natural gas analysis and data reporting to LIMS, in addition to ISO 17025 and Guide 34 certified reference materials. Responding to new regulations in and reflecting several of the Conference papers, there were Seminars addressing the analysis of sorption tubes located at refinery boundaries and close to fugitive and area emission sources of Benzene and other VOCs. This subject was also addressed by companies that offer alternative monitoring technologies.
A variety of Seminars also addressed the monitoring of process gases, steam quality, toxicity evaluation of waste drilling fluids, colour measurement, TOC and mercury monitoring and the IED and the new BREFs on ELVs. In addition, there were presentations addressing heat exchanger leakages, optimising ethanol gasoline blendstocks, bioremediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil, evaporation loss of lubricants, butane blending, NOx capture and water salinity reduction.
With so many subjects to choose from, the organisers helped visitors to plan their time at the event by creating a tool on the PEFTEC.com website that enabled visitors to select their areas of interest and thereby view the Conference and Seminar presentations that addressed these themes.
